Democratic Dictatorship

“The Constitution is just a GodDamned peice of paper” -G.W. Bush

Oh how I wish I was making those words up. Sadly, I’m not.

I won’t start a big tirade on my thoughts on the topic… somebody already did that for me, and they were very good at voicing exactly what I have been thinking for some time now.

There is a reason that this man’s approval rating is in the 30′s… It gives me hope that perhaps the American people aren’t as collectively stupid as they have proven to be as individuals

A Proper Redirection

Say goodbye to META tags and Javascript redirects. If you are using those on your site, then a lot of search engines are probably tagging your site as spam. (for those of you playing the home game… that’s BAD).

How are you supposed to redirect then? Well, I stumbled across this article written by Steven Hargrove. He goes through not only an explanation of what a 301 redirect is, but also shows you how to implement it on multiple platforms / languages.

If you are doing a lot of redirecting on your site(s) definitely check this out.

Hello from Word

Not sure if any of you have downloaded the latest beta of office, but if you haven’t, then I highly recommend it.

It is a completely different world from the previous version of office. You would have to have been living under a rock not have heard about the new “ribbon” interface. It does exactly what they designed it to, everything is VERY accessible. Something that I am not used to in office.

Another nice little feature of Word is the ability to post to your blog directly from within the application. You just go to New => Blog Post and choose the category, give it a title, and start typing.

Definitely go check it out.

Stupid UAC

If you are one of those lucky millions who is running beta 2 of Windows Vista… and you are getting stopped at every turn by the UAC protection and messy notifications about you not being an administrator (even though you KNOW you are) when you do stuff like click the Start button, go here and scroll toward the bottom for instructions on how to disable those pesky messages. Sometimes Microsoft knows best… most of the time they don’t however.

I have run Windows for many years and they didn’t give a crap about how secure it was, and now it seems like the biggest security risk on my computer is … me!

Buffett & Gates

“Brace yourself,” billionaire Warren Buffett warned with a grin during an interview with Fortune magazine. He then described a momentous change in his thinking. Within months, he said, he would begin to give away his Berkshire Hathaway fortune, worth well over $40 billion. Most of it is going to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, he said.

WOW!

I am not sure how many of you have followed the works of the Gates Foundation, but what little I have followed absolutely amazes me.  Imagine being able to sit down and come up with a solution to a global problem, then having somebody with virtually unlimited funds come to you and say, “I don’t care how much it costs… make it happen”.

A lot of talk is going around about what is going to happen to Microsoft when Bill steps down to work on his foundation full time… I am more interested in what is going to happen to humanitarian causes around the world when this man devotes his full power to his foundation.  Microsoft isn’t going anywhere, unless it manages to completely screw things up (more than it has been recently by a long shot) for the next decade, it will be just fine.  Besides, Bill is still going to be Chairman of the Board, so if he doesn’t like the way things are being handled, he can always step back in.

So, now, not only is Bill going to be taking the reigns of his foundation full time, but Warren Buffett has stepped in and is handing a majority of his fortune over to the foundation to be used in assisting with the various causes.

Definitely read the article and check out the foundations site when you have the opportunity.
